Creating Truly Comfortable Bedrooms
The bedroom is your haven, your safe space, tucked away from the cares of the world. It is the one place where you should be able to completely let go, releasing the heavy burden of life and relaxing into gentle tranquility. Creating the right atmosphere in such a space is vital; you want the bedroom to be serene and peaceful, and to gently wrap its warm loving arms around you each and every night as you drift quietly off to sleep.
Color is an important aspect to consider when designing the atmosphere of this space. Different tones evoke very different emotions, and can color the bedroom with particular moods depending on which tones are chosen.
In general darker tones are going to be quieter, more subdued, and more morose. On the opposite hand, bright exuberant tones tend to lend a space a lot of energy and volatility. If you have trouble relaxing or sleeping at night, then you should decorate the room with darker colors, but if you have even more trouble getting up and going in the morning, then bright tones may be able to help you out with a little burst of energy inspiration.
Texture is another decorating aspect that is important in the bedroom, both from a tactile, and from a visual point of view. You want the space to wrap itself warmly around you. As such you should try and avoid furnishings which have hard lines, or a cold demeanor. Stick with warm lively materials such as hardwood or whicker, as opposed to modern straight line materials such as stainless steal in this space.
The more soft textures you have spread throughout the bedroom the better. When your eyes see a pillow, it sends a message to your brain, which then calls up all of the information you have recorded about pillows; that they are soft, that they are squishy, that they are warm etc. By recalling this you get a subtle hint of the sensation of actually touching the pillow. This means that having blankets, pillows, and other soft cloth materials in the space will actually make the room more snug and cozy, even if you never touch any of them.
When working on the bedrooms atmosphere, it is important not to forget about scent. Smell is a powerful sensation that is tied directly into your mood and memories. Certain scents can evoke vivid recollections, or alter your mood completely. You should be certain to keep the bedroom free of any unsavory scents, and to try and control the air. This can be done with regular cleaning, as well as with glade plug-ins, and or scented candles spread generously throughout the space.
Another thing you should try to do in the bedroom is to remove any signs of clutter that may be interfering with the flow of the space. Clutter is distracting, it makes a room seem uneven and chaotic. In the bedroom less is more. Instead of loading the space down with hundreds of useless knick knacks, try choosing just one or two special pieces that evoke the right emotions in you. These can be works of art, sculptures, functional pieces such as clocks or lamps, or anything that will help to make the room feel more soothing and serene.
The bedroom truly is one of the most important spaces in your home. It is a place just for you, which should be decorated in such a way that it makes you comfortable, and is dressed specifically to your own individual needs. Since this is a relatively private space, you are free to indulge in your own personal whims here. However, it is important not to get carried away. You don’t want the space to end up feeling calm and peaceful, not cluttered and chaotic.
